All pages in a single file

RoboAuthor manages even large page sets as a single file: this is an important concept to understand, as many Internet-like editors work with pages instead. This feature makes your job simpler and faster: it means that you don’t need to continuously load and save pages (so creating large manuals/hypertext is simpler), and that you act on a whole document even for searches and revisions.

To achieve these benefits, RoboAuthor saves files in a native format. The file extension is .aeh (“File >Save”, “File >Save as...”, “File >Open”, “File >New”): it’s only one file per document, so using this format you skip hundreds of HTML, GIF,...

When you need to publish your work, RoboAuthor can create, on-the-fly, all the most popular formats.

Here are the main formats supported:

- Html for the Internet

Internet Web pages consist of HTML files and GIF, JPG images. RoboAuthor can generate Html on the fly (”File >Export pages...” or “File >Save as...”).

RoboAuthor can also import multiple Html files to a single .aeh format. You can select a group of files, or even start from a file and let RoboAuthor automatically follow the links in order to import all linked pages and images. Note you may experience some format losses that you may have to correct in the editor.

To perform the import, use "File >Import pages...", and choose "Html" as the format, in the combo on top.

RoboAuthor is not an HTML editor: the HTML is intended as a printing language. If you want to fine tune the HTML (instead of the actual content) you might have to get another editor.

- RTF for WinHelp

The MS Win Help compiler needs a RTF source, properly formatted. With RoboAuthor you can generate it with a click (”File >Export pages”).

If you own the RTF source of a WinHelp, you can import the hypertext in RoboAuthor. RoboAuthor can join several RTF files in one .aeh.

To perform the import, use "File >Import pages...", and choose "RTF WinHelp" as the format, in the combo on top. This is useful for example to import RoboHelp-generated files, thus taking advantage of the RoboAuthor environment.

- HTML Help

This is the new format for the MSWindows Help system.

- AEH on autoinstall CDROM

This is the native format, that you can use to share your works with friends and colleagues. It can be read by RoboAuthor, iPerReader and by other VisualVision products, including the EbooksWriter (that can create compact standalone self extracting self installing .exe files).
